About Us

A newly formed website has been created, www.thenorthcoastofamerica.com, with the objective of promoting an additional, generic phrase to be utilized when describing the Great Lakes Region. While reading, it appeared an unfamiliar phrase was mostly unused, i.e., The North Coast. This seemed to be more specific and useful in describing our area.

It seemed some currently used regional phrases could be improved simply by being a little more specific. For example:

  • Where is Up North? The U.P.? Maybe Canada? Or even Alaska, no?
  • Where is the 3rd coast? It could be referring to either the Gulf, or Canada’s coast.
  • Where is the Midwest? It is the 12 states from Ohio to the Dakota’s (Wikipedia).

Facts to Consider:

  • The North Coast coastal miles are longer than the more commonly referred to, The East Coast or The West Coast’s coastal miles…even if combined!
  • The North Coast is a major part of the world’s longest international boundary (5,525 miles), and separates the world’s 2nd and 4th largest countries.

How to Introduce It

More research allowed settling on a map, that after editing became the project’s logo. How to introduce it became an issue. A decision was made to trademark the logo to control its usage; it was submitted for casual clothing and a decal. These can serve as ‘mobile billboards’ to promote awareness. This then meant finding a clothes printer and then presenting them to retailers. The plan was to simply expose the concept and hope it would catch on, ideally with the media.

Then Lightning Struck

Reading The Express produced an incredible alternative… SunFrog’s fulfillment model. located in Gaylord, MI., SunFrog has become the world’s largest clothing printer and seller. This was all through the internet & their business model of invoicing, printing and shipping any selected item(s) via your website. All you needed was to produce a website! This was a much easier way to reach a much larger audience… again, all you needed was a website!

Suddenly a much larger project. This also created an additional goal, to see how much of the effort could be accomplished locally. The technology required ranged from: logo design, web design, legal trademarking, tag designing, decal design, prototype T printing, tag printing, creating an LLC, a commercial account, a wholesale provider, and an advertising entity.

A Wonderful Result

All local providers, except for SunFrog, but close, no? SunFrog is only about an hour away, but have since located their software development in Traverse City.
